10 Qs with Elizabeth Olsen of Olsenhaus

Elizabeth Olsen founded luxury vegan fashion brand Olsenhaus in New York City in 2008. She is a pioneer of ethical fashion and an advocate for animal rights. Some of her celebrity clients include Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Alicia Silverstone.

SOULiers Studio is SO pleased to be carrying a selection of her beautiful shoes in our first curated collection. We asked Elizabeth some pressing questions about ethical fashion, shoes, and desert island must-haves. Here are her responses. 

1. Describe your personal style in 5 words or less.
Classic, Modern, Simple, Understated, Unexpected.

2. Describe your brand aesthetic in 5 words or less.
Same as above!

3. Number of years as a vegan.
Vegetarian 20, Vegan 9

4. What has been the most challenging thing for you launching your own vegan shoe brand?
Working with, or rather explaining the manufacturing and pollution of leather to mainstream retailers. Even more difficult is speaking to them about the consciousness of animals, when they have a full floor of leather shoes and are worried about               making sales #s over saving lives or the planet.

5. What has been the most rewarding part?
Knowing everyday I speak for the innocent and the hope that one day everyone will be vegan.

6. What do you see as the biggest vegan or ethical fashion trend right now.
Simply being vegan actually. Fashion is still behind food.

7. Do you think that apparel and accessories that are ethical/vegan should be differentiated from leather and other animal materials? If so, how?
Yes, labeled. Olsenhaus puts it right in the logo, on the insole of shoe

8. What is the craziest myth you’ve heard about being vegan?
That people must eat meat.

9. Most inspiring activist/style muse/role model.
The original incarnations who spoke for animals and veganism. Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi.

10. Top 3 things you’d take with you to a desert island.
Sunglasses, a lover, and my dog
